I remember when I had no idea what a hashtag actually was! I would see them and think, how annoying they were. I didn’t realize if you clicked on them it would open you up to a whole new world of exactly what you were interested in. No matter what side of the hashtag issue you are on it seems like they are here to stay. So for those of you holdouts who haven’t really figured out what hashtags are or how to use them effectively this post is for you! I have also created a free cheat sheet with some of my favorite organizing related hashtags that are currently being used! Now you will have no excuse and have to try them!
I just recently learned about a site called #TWUBS. This is a site where you can register and brand you very own hashtags. But first let’s go back and define what a hashtag is. According to #TWUBS, “Hashtags are any word in the social conversation that begins with the “#” symbol.” Americans call it a pound sign but apparently everyone else calls it a “hash”. #TWUBS also says, “Hashtags simply let you associate your tweets with a larger topic, group or conversation. It’s like adding keywords to your message to make it globally searchable.”
Hashtags are a great way to find the trending topics you need to know about for your business. You can find topics you are looking for by searching hash tags, or you can create your own and start a new topic. I just recently branded three hashtags here on #TWUBS myself. They are #smarthappyorganized. #diyorganizerseries, #dqdc (DIY Quick De-Clutter). Once you register a hashtag with #TWUBS you will then get your own administrator page for each hashtag you resister and any tweets you make with that hashtag will appear. #TWUBS can also be used to host Twitter Chats as well though I haven’t tried this service yet.
Using a hashtag is actually pretty easy and fun once you get used to it. There are some rules about when and how to to hashtag. Here is a link to the hashtag rules and more information.
Try to think of at least one hashtag that would work well to help brand your business or even a fun one for your family! If you love it go ahead and register it on #TWUBS!
Please share any cool hashtags you come up with so we can start using them too!
