My family and I are up in the mountains of Colorado for a few days enjoying the ski season.

Even though I love having this family time there’s always a part of me (the entrepreneur part) that would love to find a quiet spot I can sit alone and work on my journaling, mindset, blogging, and creative ideas for my business!

I tend to have some amazing ideas when I am able to remove myself from my normal environment for a bit. So I was going to ski for two days and have one day all to myself to work!

I even found a gorgeous lodge next door to go and take my laptop, sit by the fire and write.

HIGH VIBE BABY!

BUT….

The universe had other plans for me this week. My eight year old became very sick in the mountains and when we took him to the hospital it was strep throat. Since all mothers know it’s much easier to take care of a sick, not to mention contagious child at home, we hightailed it back down the mountain. I left his dad up skiing because he deserves some time on the mountain.

So my high vibe has been replaced by the mom vibe for a few days.

Taking care of my Sam who’s on the mend now.

Finally getting some sleep after being up 24 hours or more with my sick child.

Disinfecting and washing everything.

I may not be at the beautiful lodge in the mountains writing but I am home and my son is getting better.

So per usual I am typing this at the kitchen table, while my sweet boy is on the couch healing.

Tomorrow will be better.

Tomorrow is a new day.

Tomorrow mercy is always new!

Tomorrow is always a clean slate where you can get your high vibe back!

If you have to switch roles for a bit, don’t stop, don’t give up.

Just wake up tomorrow and the high vibe will be back!

I’ve had two wonderful conversations this week that both ended up having the same message. If you want to attract more clients to your business use your blog and write about the WHY not the HOW.

How many articles do you read out there that tell you how to do something? There are tons and tons of them. From, “How to Organize Your Pantry” to “How to lose 10 pounds in 10 days.” While these make good headlines and they may get a lot of traffic to your site do they convert into clients well? I’m not so sure.

It seems like people mostly read these articles so they can get tips on how to do things on their own. But how many times do they actually reach out to the writer to ask for help.

Writing Challenge

If you are a blogging entrepreneur I want you to try something new.

Do a month long experiment where you don’t write about the how but you actually write about the why. Write about, “Why You Should Organize Your Pantry” or “Why You Should Lose 10 Pounds.” Don’t tell them any steps or how to do it.

You can use case studies of past clients and write about results. You can tell them how they will feel, how they may save money, how it can lower blood pressure, promote independence, whatever outcomes you can think of.

What you are doing is giving outcomes not steps. Tell them the why, teach them the how.

Ask them to reach out to you if they would like help with the steps. Ask them to email you or private message you. Just implore them to reach out.

Tell them they can stay and live in the exact same space they are in or they can reach out for help and see the outcomes mentioned above.

Now, I can’t guarantee your blog will have as much blog traffic, but I can guarantee that you will resonate with your audience. You will attract a new audience and you will start gaining paying clients.

Sometimes it’s a choice you have to make between being popular (lots of site traffic) or being profitable (lots of actual clients).

Selling Your Message

You can’t expect to make money if you are not actively selling everyday. The above way of writing a blog is a form of selling. It’s called content marketing. It’s getting your message out daily.

People are fickle. They may bookmark or pin your “How To” posts but does it really grab them and make them want to reach out to you for help?

This is what I challenge you to work on in the next 30 days! I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

My message today is simple! Please don’t give up your dream!

Yesterday, I got a PM from someone who told me that what I said in my blog post/ message spoke to her deeply and she was struggling with her business and what direction to go in.

You know I felt her pain because I’ve lived her pain.

You know the pain when you have a dream, a goal, a calling, you know you are meant to do but you can’t get anyone to listen or pay attention.

When you feel stuck and miserable and keep hitting walls and roadblocks.

You have created courses that no one wants even when they are free.

You’re one on one clients are far and few between.

But everywhere you turn you see other bloggers and entrepreneurs with successful money making blogs, courses, and clients!

What’s the freaking deal? What do they have that you don’t? What are they doing that you haven’t tried?

How much more of yourself do you have to give before something finally clicks in your entrepreneurial journey and you hit your sweet spot?

Yes I know this pain well.

Until you hit your sweet spot as an entrepreneur you live on the edge of this pain.

My message today is simple! Please don’t give up your dream!

After hearing from many of you and hearing your stories I feel like this has to be said.

Please don’t give up your dream of working for yourself, of being a creative entrepreneur, of living your purpose!

I know it feels overwhelming.

I know you may be broke or damn close.

You are embarrassed and ashamed to ask for help because you should be able to stand on your own two feet in your business.

Well guess what? None of this matters!

You simply can’t give up! Why you ask?

Because I won’t let you.

I’ve been EXACTLY where you are and I know the way out! Sounds ballsy right? Well it’s true!

You don’t need all of the information that’s getting thrown at you. You don’t need all of the fancy marketing techniques and ten mastermind Facebook groups.

What you need is simple. So simple that when you hear it you might cry.

All you need is, a message from deep within your soul and an audience with whom it resonates!

This can apply to anything you do, whether it’s creating, writing, hands on work. You have a message you want to share that’s within you, don’t you?

They key is getting it out and using it to attract the clients you are meant to work with.

Of course there are a few simple strategies and habits to form. But I promise you it’s so simple you will identify with it naturally.

It’s time to toss out 90% of the material and garbage you think you have to know to be a successful creator and entrepreneur.

You get a clean slate and can say that this is your Entrepreneur 101 class (hey that’s so good I might use it in the future)!

If you still think this all sounds a bit hokey and too good to be true then message me and I’ll tell you where I once was and how close I was too giving up and haw honestly ashamed and devastated I was feeling.

I mean no one wants to give up on their big dreams right?

Do you compare yourself to other bloggers, writers, or entrepreneurs? It’s kind of hard not to isn’t it? It seems like there’s always someone doing what we want to be doing, creating what we want to create, or saying what we want to say.

Creativity Comparison

I recently read a post which was SO similar to a post I wrote last year, only this new post by someone else had a ton more comments and engagement than my original post.

It was hard not to feel like I had the idea first and now this blogger was getting rewarded for sloppy seconds. I felt like I wasn’t good enough, smart enough, and didn’t have what it takes to be an amazing writer, blogger, and influencer.

But here’s the thing. Why was I even thinking negative thoughts about another blogger/entrepreneur at all? Why was I letting one blog post make me feel bad about my whole existence as a writer?

I should be celebrating the fact that my idea was pretty badass. Badass enough to be written about again and I should be happy all these people are responding and thinking the same thing.

Why do competitive feelings and the need for comparison creep up inside us? Because, it’s our human nature to expand, grow, and become better and more than we were yesterday.

Our minds naturally want to organize information and see where we belong in the grand scheme of things. Where do we fit in?

Do we as individuals have the power to stop competing and comparing? Since it’s a natural reaction we may not be able to stop it but we can reframe it toward ourselves in a positive way. It just takes a little training.

Income Comparison

Now, let’s talk about those amazing income reports bloggers are sharing these days! Have you seen them?

At first I thought it was amazing, awesome, and inspiring to see how bloggers and online entrepreneurs can make SO.MUCH.MONEY!

BUT, after about a year of seeing these income reports I started to feel envious. Yuck, I hate that feeling!

It’s inevitable that if your business and income aren’t rising to “big kids” level and you haven’t been able to hire a “team” then you start to feel like they are on the A list and you are on the B or C list. What are they doing different and better?

You start comparing yourself to them even though it’s like comparing apples and oranges. You forget they were where you are once.

You can’t gauge where you are based on what someone else is doing. You end up not only judging them but you judge yourself (super harshly) as well.

Stop Competing & Comparing and Start Creating & Making Money | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms

Rivalries

Speaking of being judged and competition, I also wanted to talk about rivals! Have you ever had a rival in your life, in school, in sports, or now in business?

A rival isn’t just friendly competition a rival is by definition, “A person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity.” A rival doesn’t just want to win they want to take you out of the field completely.

If you have a business rival how would you feel if you could get out from underneath the stress of this rivalry that you don’t want to be in?

What if you discovered you no longer have to compete or be in their game?

This is what I’ve been working on the last year for myself.

I am SICK of all of the messages out there telling us we aren’t smart enough, good enough, young enough, skinny enough, successful enough, or rich enough.

Instead of conforming and shrinking to those expectations I’ve ALWAYS found myself rebelling!

I’m not going to judge people, or shame people, or hate people, or be jealous of people. This is a complete time, energy, and life suck and nobody wins.

I’ve been turning away from all of my detractors and distractions!

I’m learning contentment and how to be comfortable in my own skin because THIS is what releases my CREATIVITY!

I’ve stopped competing for what was never meant to be mine and started calling forth what is!

Letting go of all of these outside expectations leaves me with ENERGY and CLARITY to discover what is MINE and what is out there FOR ME!

I’m taking my RIGHTFUL PLACE in the world and not worrying about where everyone else is.

If you believe in yourself REALLY and what you are called to do then nothing will stop you or even slow you down.

This is EXACTLY what I want for you too!

Why Opt-Ins Aren’t Working Anymore and What To Do Now?

Why Opt-Ins Aren't Working Anymore and What To Do Now? | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM| Business tips, business, branding, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, ecourse, blog course, info product, freelance, marketing, instagram, pinterest, facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, social media, email marketing, content marketing, blogging, b2b, productivity, business tools

Have you noticed lately on your blog or website that it’s a really slow painful process to get people to go for one of your opt-ins? Or that once people opt-in, grab your freebie, they unsubscribe. It’s like we are playing a cat and mouse game.

What’s the Problem?

Why Opt-Ins Aren't Working Anymore and What To Do Now? | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM| Business tips, business, branding, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, ecourse, blog course, info product, freelance, marketing, instagram, pinterest, facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, social media, email marketing, content marketing, blogging, b2b, productivity, business tools

People aren’t stopping to take the time to read anymore. They want your free content sure, but opting into your blog to read what you’ve written and enjoy being a part of your list just doesn’t hold the same sway for people anymore.

This may be because we all have very full in-boxes and multiple email addresses. Also, because we are being sold to everywhere! Content and e mail marketing are huge! Many times the content and offers are valuable, but other times the sales feel petty and like the blogger isn’t in it for you but only for themselves. I don’t think that’s necessarily true, it just seems that way because many solopreneur bloggers simply don’t know how or have the time to “nurture” their lists and provide all of the free content upgrades before they begin selling like the big bloggers do.

I also think people seem to forget that bloggers HAVE to make money somehow. There are overhead costs, costs for their time, and bloggers would like to be paid for their valuable content. Bloggers are providing a service whether it’s valuable information, entertainment or a place to find answers.

The Freebie Game

Why Opt-Ins Aren't Working Anymore and What To Do Now? | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM| Business tips, business, branding, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, ecourse, blog course, info product, freelance, marketing, instagram, pinterest, facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, social media, email marketing, content marketing, blogging, b2b, productivity, business tools

The FREE content and giveaway game has really taken over blogging; so much so, that you almost spend more time creating free content and giveaways to even interest people in your blog and less time really focusing on your craft or writing for your audience. That’s why big bloggers and companies with teams killing it right now.

If you are an individual blogger, entrepreneur, solopreneuer, mompreneur then you may be getting your blogging butt kicked by the big bloggers with the VA’s, the graphic designers, the CFO’s and the personal assistants. Now I’m not saying these people are bad by any means. Many of us aspire to have it all one day too. BUT, how to compete right now for your place in this noisy social media, to many emails, stop selling to me of I’ll unsubscribe you blog world?

Suggestions

Some I mention in my livestream Opt-In video:

Here are a few more ideas as well:

  • Stop competing. Take all of the time and energy you put into creating FREE opt-ins and channel it into your writing. Write EPIC content, post it on social media always linking back to your blog. Do this on REPEAT.
  • Start live-streaming and talking about how you really feel about whatever is going on in your niche. The more real you are the more you pique peoples interest. Always put a call to action to check out your blog, Facebook group, or current sales offer at the end of the videos (or somewhere in the video as well). Show these video’s live on your FB page and then email them to your existing tribe and embed them in a blog post.
  • Create an opt-in for your videos and your content.
  • Subscribe to only 5-10 of your favorite writers, bloggers, entrepreneurs who you know deliver great content time and time again. Do what they say. Don’t flood your own inbox and distract yourself from the writing and creating you should be doing.
  • Support other bloggers on the same level as yourself. Create your own tribe of bloggers, writers, and creators whom you subscribe to and support, by sharing posts, chatting in groups, or just offering words of support.
  • Remember the big bloggers had to start somewhere too!
  • DO NOT get discouraged! DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR DREAMS!

Today is day one of no TV or electronics in the morning or after school for our eight year old son, Sam.

The first thing out of his mouth when I tell him to sit at the table for breakfast is, “Can I turn the TV on and watch Curious George?” (he’s knows this is a benign TV show that I used to say yes to).

I say, “No, today we are starting the no TV in the morning rule.”

He says, “Can we just turn on the news?” I say no.

He says, “Don’t you need to check the weather?” I say I can do it on my phone.

He sees my phone and says, “Can I play on your phone?” I say no. I say you need to let it go (calling on my inner Meghan Trainor here).

Basically, in the span of two minutes my son tried four different tactics to get me to do what he wanted. He didn’t succeed but he didn’t give up, he just kept coming and he didn’t get emotional.

These are great rules for selling right?

Don’t give up

Ask multiple times in different ways

Don’t get emotional when you hear no

This was just a small exchange. Let’s go a bit bigger shall we?

When our son wants more time on his Wii video game he will try the negotiating, using the If/Then tactic.

If you let me have more time on the game then I promise I will clean my room before bed.

If you let me have more time on the game then I will practice the piano extra tonight.

These are great tactics for writing a sales offer.

If you take my course then you will learn….

If you buy my service then you will receive….

Another great way my son tries to get what he wants is by telling a great story!

He will go into great detail about his game of football at recess and how fun it was, how fast he ran, and how great he did, keeping me interested in the story until the end when he says, “You know I could be even better with a new football.” By that time I’m thinking wow, maybe he should have a new football.

Kids are little salespeople from the get go. They have no fear, they are like little machines that keep going until they get what they want.

Think of what kind of salesperson you could be for your business if you had the same mental fortitude and go for it!

How to Not Let Resentment Ruin Your Business or Creativity

How to Not Let Resentment Ruin Your Business or Creativity | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms

Today, as I was on my exercise walk, thinking about my business and trying to uncover the times in my business where I felt anxious, grumpy, and like I didn’t want to be bothered. I was trying to recall the times I’d felt resentment.

Resentment is a relationship killer. Whether it be in your business, your friends, your neighbors, your spouse or even your children. If you don’t set and stick to strong personal boundaries and you let resentment creep in it can be costly to any relationship.

How to Not Let Resentment Ruin Your Business or Creativity | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms

The last time I really felt a whole lot of resentment was when I overbooked myself with my work. Some of you are immediately thinking that being over-booked would be a nice problem to have, but I was so stretched I couldn’t see straight.

I was overbooked with coaching clients, dripping weekly material for a course (there are much easier ways to do this now), writing my normal blog posts two-four times a week, and delegating jobs to my sub-contractor. That was just the business side. There was also the mom of a second grader side and the busy housewife side! Not to mention a dog, two cats, and five hermit crabs!

How to Not Let Resentment Ruin Your Business or Creativity | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms

During this time I know my writing suffered because I resented having to get a blog post out. I tried my best not to have resentment about my coaching calls because I do love being on live with clients and helping them work on their goals, writing, marketing, or the technical side of their blog. But sometimes the calls ( I scheduled myself) seemed like they were at the exact wrong times. My energy would be down and I would make it through but I was not having a flow-based conversation!

I understand that running a business means doing things at times that are convenient for our clients but your self care is just as, if not more, important. This is where the need for strong boundaries around self care come into play. After-all, you are protecting your attitude and energy and they both affect your reputation.

When you start feeling resentment towards activities involved in your business it’s beneficial to pay attention and figure out why.

Try this:

  • Write down when you begin to feel anxious about a task
  • What tasks do you dread?
  • What you would rather be doing during this time?

Do you see what activities you would rather be doing and understand that the tasks you have scheduled for yourself are impeding on this time?

For example, if you like to exercise or journal in the morning and you have booked yourself coaching calls every morning for a week you have lost some self care time. Same as if you booked working for clients after lunch when that is usually your gym time. If you know skipping the gym is going to make your have low energy and resentment toward your 4pm coaching call maybe you should put the gym back on the list.

How to Not Let Resentment Ruin Your Business or Creativity | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms

Things to do:

  • Schedule your self care as appointments.
  • Set strong boundaries around them.
  • If you hear yourself saying you don’t have time for the gym, or journaling, or writing, or whatever is part of your self care routine, then your boundaries aren’t strong enough.

There will be times on occasion you can’t help it but these times should be the EXCEPTION not the rule.

Take care of yourself first!

How You Are Sabotaging Your Money Goals In Your Business | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms

Are you the kind of person who dismisses their job as a side job, or say that your income is “fun money” or the “vacation fund?” If you are okay with that then that is great but if you secretly want MORE and have BIG MONEY GOALS for your business, this post is for you!

How You Are Sabotaging Your Money Goals In Your Business | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms

Money Goals

In the past, when people asked me about my business income or money goals I would just shrug it off and say it’s “fun money” for our family, or it helps with vacations. But secretly inside I was disappointed with myself and my business because I didn’t want it to just be a side job. I want it to be a super successful business that could not only stand on it’s own two feet, but create wealth for our family.

One of the blocks I’ve had for myself is the belief that I don’t need or have to make money because my husband provide a wonderful living for our family.

Honestly, by saying it was a side job I think that’s exactly what it became. The fact is, deep inside I knew I didn’t have to hustle as much as the people who have only one income. I didn’t have to believe in myself, my job and depend on my income as much as I should have.

Attitude Change

I obviously realized what I was doing but how did I change my attitude? Well first, let me say that your spouse thinks of your job as a real job. It’s time away from the home, from the family and time you should be paid for. They are not simply investing in a side job for you. They believe that your job could be so successful they could someday retire. Now if they don’t believe that you should ask why? Have you given them permission to think of your job as a side job as well?

Changing my attitude to really believe in my business and believe in my success and unlimited income wasn’t as hard as it seems. It turns out that when you are living in a state of abundance it’s much easier than working from a state of scarcity and desperation. Let me explain, when I was talking with people about my side job and side income I was really feeling out of alignment (my business didn’t align with my purpose, I was taking valuable time away from my family) and  I should be doing more and earning more. It was a desperate feeling because I didn’t want my business to be a drain on the family income. I was supposed to be supplementing it right? This was me working from a place of scarcity.

Once I started being grateful for what I had, proud of the fact that I don’t have to work, but owning the fact that when I work I want to be successful, be an influencer and obtain wealth (and that’s okay!), I came back into alignment. I am working from a place of abundance now!

Living Your Purpose

One other major thing I realized was, since I wasn’t living my purpose, I wasn’t sharing the message I wanted to share and that I knew I was called to share. How did I know this? When your job, your writing, your activities start to feel uncomfortable, acceptable but not awesome, or just okay versus, “This feels amazing, I know I am doing what I am called to do,” you just know you’re not in alignment with your purpose. You can stay there or take action and move forward.

If you are unsure about your purpose you can check out  What’s the Difference Between Purpose and Passion? and it will help you clarify it!

Here are a few ways I have taken action to overcome my money blocks:

  • Write my money goals and what I want. Being very specific and not worrying about being judged.
  • Take the top 10 goals and write and affirm them everyday. Examples: “I am okay with being wealthy”, “I am going to make X amount of money this month.”, “I am going to buy my dream car this year,” “I could retire my parents with this money.”
  • Go over each of the top five or 10 goals individually and answer this question, “What action would you take today if you believed in each goal?”
  • Even when I’m afraid of the outcome (people won’t like my message, people won’t follow me, etc.) I take action anyway!
  • Call in your money! Get clear about exactly how much you want or need daily, monthly, or weekly and affirm it daily.
  • DON’T make the excuse that it’s a side job, hustle or fun money or that is the income you will be calling in.

Just because we are fortunate enough to not have to make money for our families doesn’t mean that money wouldn’t benefit our families greatly. Learn to call it in for all of the wonderful things you could do with it.

Happy Money Making!

10 Ways My Husband Supports My Dreams

10 WAYS MY HUSBAND SUPPORTS MY DREAMS | AutumnLeopold.com| Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms

Lately, all of the mindset work has me thinking about all of the wonderful things I have in my life. Things I am grateful for and that are irreplaceable. Like the simple fact that I’ve always had my husbands support for my my business endeavors, my hobbies, my creative ideas and just about anything I choose to do. So I wanted to take a moment to let everyone know how thankful I am to have such a wonderful husband and father to our son!

10 WAYS MY HUSBAND SUPPORTS MY DREAMS | AutumnLeopold.com| Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms

Here are 10 ways my husband supports me:

He’s gotten up between 3:30am and 5:30 am for the last 16 years to work to support our family.

He loans me money without discussion (well most of the time)!

He sacrifices his time with me and cares for our son when I have to work late.

He understands growing a business/dream takes time and tries (very hard) not to get frustrated.

He offers to proofread my blogs for me and I need to take him up on it so he will actually read them (plus I’ve had poor editing of my own posts as of late).

He’s ALWAYS excited about my new ideas!

He LOVES seeing me excited and passionate about my writing!

He loves that I am showing our son that moms work hard too.

He realizes that the coaching and education I receive for my business also helps me grow as a person.

He is still here loving and supports me daily!

Thank you my sweet husband, David.

Doing What You’re Called to Do in 2017

Doing What You’re Called to Do in 2017 | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms, writing, writing entrepreneurs, blogging organizers, blogging, blogger

Some of you, my loyal followers and readers might be asking the question lately about why am I talking so much about mindset? What happened to all of the organizing posts and what is this writing entrepreneur gig?

So I thought I would take some time to clarify the new message and mission of this blog for 2017 and beyond.

On Organizing

Let’s start with what happened to Smart Happy Organized and the organizing posts I was doing. I love home organizing and professional organizing and I loved writing about them. I just found that after three years my voice was changing, the people I wanted to impact and serve was changing, and I didn’t feel like I had much more to say about organizing.

In fact I was taking more of a minimalist stance and what I really wanted to start saying was get rid of your stuff and quit buying more! But of course that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

So I decided to evolve and see where that takes me.

Doing What You’re Called to Do in 2017 | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement, business, business tips, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, productivity, momlife, moms, writing, writing entrepreneurs, blogging organizers, blogging, blogger

On Writing Entrepreneurs

Within the professional organizing world I met some amazing people who are not only professional organizers but writers and authors as well. I found myself talking more to them about the many different aspects of writing, blogging, publishing etc.

I became really excited about writing more myself and seeing where that could take me. Not just writing organizing posts but writing posts about changing your life, your mindset, your income, and of course the technical stuff for bloggers and entrepreneurs. I found I really want to impact and help those of us who write and want to earn an income using our writing in one way or another.

True story here, my mother was a writer. I used to make fun of her for saying she was a writer. Mostly because she had one very successful period in her life of being a writer and getting published. Then for years she only wrote in spurts, never tried to get paid, and never made any more money. Yet no matter what, she said she was a writer when people asked her what she did. In her heart she would always be a writer. My mother passed away in 2014 and I often wonder what she would think if she knew her daughter had become a writer too. I also wonder what her life may have been like if she had found inspiration and information in some form and from someone. So if I can be the inspiration, the coach, the mentor or whatever you want to call if for a writer out there who is struggling I believe that’s my purpose and my message. I can see it now.

You will hear and see me sharing my message daily or more if you follow me. That’s the scoop on the writing entrepreneur gig.

On Mindset

Lastly, you may be wondering where all of this mindset stuff is coming from and why am I grabbing on to it so tightly. At the end of 2016, a livestream video caught my eye by an author, speaker, and badass success coach named Kat Loterzo. After I watched the livestream I felt excited, energized, and a renewed sense of…something! I didn’t know what at that point but I wanted to explore it! So I watched more of her videos, began listening to her audio messages while I was walking the dog etc. I began journaling, doing mindset work, daily affirmations, and manifesting! I can’t really describe the change that was taking place in me but I was excited about something. About writing, getting back in shape, about calling whatever good I wanted into my life. Once I started on this course and saw that this manifestation was really working I knew I had to begin to share it with my tribe as well. Since this isn’t what I am known for I thought I would just start writing about it, introduce it and talk about how it’s really changed my path in my personal life, fitness, family, business, and writing. I should give credit and say how Kat  has really changed my path!

So I will be bringing you some of the things I learn and hopefully excite you and get you started on this kick ass journey too! If it’s not for you I totally get it. I’ll be talking about plenty of other topics that have to do with writing, blogging, small biz & entrepreneurship. Sometimes I may even throw in a mom story because I am a mom of an eight year old and crazy funny things happen all of the time.

But for now here is my message to you:

“I am a writing entrepreneur who wants to inspire, coach, mentor and serve you! I want you to become the kick ass writing entrepreneur you were born to be! I want to help you show up daily to work on your writing, your life and your business!”

Looking back on 2016 I realize now I have been thinking too big when it comes to my business. Way too big! It’s time to talk about why you need more than a niche.

If there is anything I have learned over the past three years it’s when it comes to growing your business sometimes thinking too big leads you into trouble.

  • Like planning too many big projects or non-money making events.
  • Getting tons of people talking about your business but no leads that earn money.
  • Spending time on projects you don’t enjoy doing that don’t earn money.

The problem with thinking about your business in a grand scope of things leads you to do too many things that AREN’T MAKING YOU MONEY.

Yet, you think you should be doing things like:

  • Posting on every social media platform for exposure.
  • Having printed business cards and brochures to hand out.
  • Paying for advertising in places your ideal clients won’t even see.

You think you need to have EVERY.SINGLE.SERVICE. you offer printed on your business cards, brochures, and website so people won’t think of one thing you haven’t offered.

Here’s my question to you.

What if you only offered one thing?

One thing where you are the expert. One thing you had such a good handle on you become known for that in your industry.

That one thing you could concentrate one, get better at, be known for, and make money from.

Even if it’s one or two or even three things do you get where I am coming from?

I look back at my brochure from professional organizing and I wanted specialize in too many areas. I was like a general contractor trying to get hired for tiling a kitchen. I mean who would you hire a tile expert or a general contractor? Both have experience but one has a specialty he is known for.

I know about thinking too big and wanting to serve people in too many different areas. I have such deep personal experience with this.

You end up trying to please to many people, trying to learn too many areas, letting yourself be sucked dry.

Focus on a Niche

They say to choose a niche and focus on that. I say choose a niche and focus on a smaller niche within that.

My niche is entrepreneurs.

My focused niche within that are writing entrepreneurs.

My message: Providing entrepreneurial support (blogging, marketing, VA work, mindset work, etc.) they need to show up daily to grow their business.

How long did it take me to figure this out? Three years!

That’s why I am encouraging you to figure out your focused niche in your business as soon as possible.

Thinking smaller is bigger in 2017.

Why You Should Focus On A Niche Within a Niche in 2017 | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Business tips, business, branding, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, ecourse, blog course, info product, freelance, marketing, instagram, pinterest, facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, social media, email marketing, content marketing, blogging, b2b, productivity, business tools Mindset, message, self sabotage, self improvement

Keep peeling off the layers until you have found the one thing which you can offer and excel in. You can always add more later but right now it’s all about focusing. Honing in your purpose.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself:

Who are your target clients/readers?

Who aren’t your target clients/readers?

What do you offer your clients/readers that they think is “nice to have” vs “need to have”?

  • You want them to need what you have and not be able to find it elsewhere.

Do you offer so many services it’s hard to communicate what they are?

  • You want your message to be clear and simple.

Does your purpose (passion + gift = purpose) clearly align with what you want to offer your clients?

Does your niche offer what prospective clients/readers want?

What kind of clients have you refused before?

What do your clients think you do exactly? (you can ask them)

How can your niche be expanded into a variety of products or service?

I truly hope this helps you think a little smaller and focus in on how you could create something no one else is doing or tighten up and streamline what you already have.

Are you inspired to create a new daily schedule for yourself this year? If you are, then I would love to help you incorporate some daily success strategies into your new routine.

Looking at the days and weeks ahead I personally want to create habits for my daily success strategies so that they will become automatic. Meaning I don’t have to wake up and think about what I will do everyday, it will be ingrained.

Habits take time to build, so in the meantime I want to set myself up with a good routine that will turn into a habit.

Daily Success Strategies

How do you decide what your daily success strategies will be?

In the past I wrote a guest post about flipping your routine to be more productive. What I didn’t know was that I had stumbled upon my daily success strategy. I just didn’t realize it at the time.

It wasn’t until I was listening to a livestream by the amazing Kat Loterzo that I realized I already knew what my daily success strategy was I just hadn’t implemented it yet.

According to Kat, these are the daily activities you need to be doing everyday to create those success strategy habits as well as an amazing money making business!

Daily Success Strategies for Your Biz | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Business tips, business, branding, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, ecourse, blog course, info product, freelance, marketing, instagram, pinterest, facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, social media, email marketing, content marketing, blogging, b2b, productivity, business tools

Daily Biz Activities

Mindset Work: Journaling, set the tone for what you will create/achieve that day.

Messaging: Writing, blogging, videos, doing whatever it is you do that gets your message out into the world. Whatever it is your feeling inside of you that day is what needs to come out.

Sales Activity: Actively selling everyday. At least one hour a day committed to selling your services or products.

Exercise/Fitness: This is where you schedule in your daily fitness and exercise.

Daily Success Strategies for Your Biz | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Business tips, business, branding, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, ecourse, blog course, info product, freelance, marketing, instagram, pinterest, facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, social media, email marketing, content marketing, blogging, b2b, productivity, business tools

At the end of the day once you are done with the top four is when you can schedule time for whatever is left including: responding to messages and emails, admin work, financials, and planning.

So many of us spend time on the wrong things daily including not selling, and then wonder why we aren’t making the money we want.

I can tell you I was doing the exact opposite of the above daily biz activities.

My old schedule was more like: check email, respond to messages, post on social media, write a blog post. Where was the creating and selling?

Daily Success Strategies for Your Biz | AUTUMNLEOPOLD.COM | Business tips, business, branding, entrepreneurs, startup, solopreneur, mompreneur, biz, girlboss, ladyboss, ecourse, blog course, info product, freelance, marketing, instagram, pinterest, facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, social media, email marketing, content marketing, blogging, b2b, productivity, business tools

Setting Time Limits

Another key to a successful daily strategy is to take each Daily Biz Activity and schedule when and how long you will do each activity.

My Schedule:

Mindset work 6:00-7:00 am

Get my son ready for school 7:00-8:00 am

Messaging 8:15-10:15 am

Exercise 10:15-11:45 am

Lunch from 11:45-12:15 pm

Selling 12:15-1:15 pm

Admin work 1:15-2:45 pm

I have to pick my son up from school at 3:00 pm so as long as I fit everything in before then, I can have family only time after son and hubby get home.

This schedule really is amazing! You can make this work for your life!

You can dream and live BIG!

If you expect and affirm that amazing things will happen! When you live by this schedule they will!
