Are you the kind of person who dismisses their job as a side job, or say that your income is “fun money” or the “vacation fund?” If you are okay with that then that is great but if you secretly want MORE and have BIG MONEY GOALS for your business, this post is for you!
In the past, when people asked me about my business income or money goals I would just shrug it off and say it’s “fun money” for our family, or it helps with vacations. But secretly inside I was disappointed with myself and my business because I didn’t want it to just be a side job. I want it to be a super successful business that could not only stand on it’s own two feet, but create wealth for our family.
One of the blocks I’ve had for myself is the belief that I don’t need or have to make money because my husband provide a wonderful living for our family.
Honestly, by saying it was a side job I think that’s exactly what it became. The fact is, deep inside I knew I didn’t have to hustle as much as the people who have only one income. I didn’t have to believe in myself, my job and depend on my income as much as I should have.
I obviously realized what I was doing but how did I change my attitude? Well first, let me say that your spouse thinks of your job as a real job. It’s time away from the home, from the family and time you should be paid for. They are not simply investing in a side job for you. They believe that your job could be so successful they could someday retire. Now if they don’t believe that you should ask why? Have you given them permission to think of your job as a side job as well?
Changing my attitude to really believe in my business and believe in my success and unlimited income wasn’t as hard as it seems. It turns out that when you are living in a state of abundance it’s much easier than working from a state of scarcity and desperation. Let me explain, when I was talking with people about my side job and side income I was really feeling out of alignment (my business didn’t align with my purpose, I was taking valuable time away from my family) and I should be doing more and earning more. It was a desperate feeling because I didn’t want my business to be a drain on the family income. I was supposed to be supplementing it right? This was me working from a place of scarcity.
Once I started being grateful for what I had, proud of the fact that I don’t have to work, but owning the fact that when I work I want to be successful, be an influencer and obtain wealth (and that’s okay!), I came back into alignment. I am working from a place of abundance now!
Living Your Purpose
One other major thing I realized was, since I wasn’t living my purpose, I wasn’t sharing the message I wanted to share and that I knew I was called to share. How did I know this? When your job, your writing, your activities start to feel uncomfortable, acceptable but not awesome, or just okay versus, “This feels amazing, I know I am doing what I am called to do,” you just know you’re not in alignment with your purpose. You can stay there or take action and move forward.

Here are a few ways I have taken action to overcome my money blocks:
- Write my money goals and what I want. Being very specific and not worrying about being judged.
- Take the top 10 goals and write and affirm them everyday. Examples: “I am okay with being wealthy”, “I am going to make X amount of money this month.”, “I am going to buy my dream car this year,” “I could retire my parents with this money.”
- Go over each of the top five or 10 goals individually and answer this question, “What action would you take today if you believed in each goal?”
- Even when I’m afraid of the outcome (people won’t like my message, people won’t follow me, etc.) I take action anyway!
- Call in your money! Get clear about exactly how much you want or need daily, monthly, or weekly and affirm it daily.
- DON’T make the excuse that it’s a side job, hustle or fun money or that is the income you will be calling in.
Just because we are fortunate enough to not have to make money for our families doesn’t mean that money wouldn’t benefit our families greatly. Learn to call it in for all of the wonderful things you could do with it.
Happy Money Making!
