Welcome to the new Clearing Clutter Hot Spots Series! I’m so excited to be moving one from the big projects of the DIY Organizer Series to the smaller areas of clutter that drive me nuts over and over again. If you read my big organizing announcement post (read here) then you know I am not completely done with The DIY Organizer Series. However, I felt it was time to take care of some of the areas leftover from the big projects. So today we are starting with my foyer cabinet!
This is such a great cabinet for so many reasons and it has been in our foyer in this spot for three years now. In our other home we used it for DVD’s and CD’s. Now that we have iTunes and Netflix we don’t store many of those anymore. So in this home we made it the foyer cabinet.
The question you may be asking yourself is what do you store in a foyer cabinet? Well our answer was basically anything. Instead of storing things we needed it became a clutter catcher. Occasionally I would try to use it for storage for our toilet paper and tissues for the bathroom, but after organizing the laundry room (read here) I had room for the paper goods in there.
Voila! Here she is all cleaned out waiting to go to her new home…in the dining room as a sideboard cabinet! I am going to get some china out of my hutch to make room for more wine glasses! I will also have room for liquor and wine on one side as well. Which mean I can re-purpose the barn wood bar we had been using.
Here she is in her new home, the dining room.
Now onto another clutter catcher in my foyer. This little cut out is a drop zone. It’s on the direct path from the front door to the laundry/garage door. It’s just too tempting to drop stuff here. The brown was here when we moved in and as you can see I have worked with it for three years. But I am tired of it now. So I’m ready for a spruce up. Maybe if I pretty it up enough I can prevent it from being a drop zone.
I just happened to have a paint sample on hand I wanted to try! Here’s a sneak peek! You will get to see if I chose this color in the next blog! Stay tuned for part two of my Clearing the Clutter: Foyer & Foyer Cabinet.
Is your foyer a clutter catcher? If so what are some of the tactics you use to prevent drop zones?
