Do you compare yourself to other bloggers, writers, or entrepreneurs? It’s kind of hard not to isn’t it? It seems like there’s always someone doing what we want to be doing, creating what we want to create, or saying what we want to say.
I recently read a post which was SO similar to a post I wrote last year, only this new post by someone else had a ton more comments and engagement than my original post.
It was hard not to feel like I had the idea first and now this blogger was getting rewarded for sloppy seconds. I felt like I wasn’t good enough, smart enough, and didn’t have what it takes to be an amazing writer, blogger, and influencer.
But here’s the thing. Why was I even thinking negative thoughts about another blogger/entrepreneur at all? Why was I letting one blog post make me feel bad about my whole existence as a writer?
I should be celebrating the fact that my idea was pretty badass. Badass enough to be written about again and I should be happy all these people are responding and thinking the same thing.
Why do competitive feelings and the need for comparison creep up inside us? Because, it’s our human nature to expand, grow, and become better and more than we were yesterday.
Our minds naturally want to organize information and see where we belong in the grand scheme of things. Where do we fit in?
Do we as individuals have the power to stop competing and comparing? Since it’s a natural reaction we may not be able to stop it but we can reframe it toward ourselves in a positive way. It just takes a little training.
Now, let’s talk about those amazing income reports bloggers are sharing these days! Have you seen them?
At first I thought it was amazing, awesome, and inspiring to see how bloggers and online entrepreneurs can make SO.MUCH.MONEY!
BUT, after about a year of seeing these income reports I started to feel envious. Yuck, I hate that feeling!
It’s inevitable that if your business and income aren’t rising to “big kids” level and you haven’t been able to hire a “team” then you start to feel like they are on the A list and you are on the B or C list. What are they doing different and better?
You start comparing yourself to them even though it’s like comparing apples and oranges. You forget they were where you are once.
You can’t gauge where you are based on what someone else is doing. You end up not only judging them but you judge yourself (super harshly) as well.
Speaking of being judged and competition, I also wanted to talk about rivals! Have you ever had a rival in your life, in school, in sports, or now in business?
A rival isn’t just friendly competition a rival is by definition, “A person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity.” A rival doesn’t just want to win they want to take you out of the field completely.
If you have a business rival how would you feel if you could get out from underneath the stress of this rivalry that you don’t want to be in?
What if you discovered you no longer have to compete or be in their game?
This is what I’ve been working on the last year for myself.
I am SICK of all of the messages out there telling us we aren’t smart enough, good enough, young enough, skinny enough, successful enough, or rich enough.
Instead of conforming and shrinking to those expectations I’ve ALWAYS found myself rebelling!
I’m not going to judge people, or shame people, or hate people, or be jealous of people. This is a complete time, energy, and life suck and nobody wins.
I’ve been turning away from all of my detractors and distractions!
I’m learning contentment and how to be comfortable in my own skin because THIS is what releases my CREATIVITY!
I’ve stopped competing for what was never meant to be mine and started calling forth what is!
Letting go of all of these outside expectations leaves me with ENERGY and CLARITY to discover what is MINE and what is out there FOR ME!
I’m taking my RIGHTFUL PLACE in the world and not worrying about where everyone else is.
If you believe in yourself REALLY and what you are called to do then nothing will stop you or even slow you down.
This is EXACTLY what I want for you too!
